YONKERS, N.Y., July 6, 2010 - From the second the horses storm out of the gate to the moment the lead contender gallops into the home turn, MultiDyne’s LiGHTBoX field fiber transport system delivers the thrill of the Yonkers Raceway to viewers, from a variety of vantage points. MultiDyne, a premier provider of fiber optic, video and audio transport and routing solutions for broadcast and pro A/V applications, has delivered two units of its award-winning LiGHTBoX to Yonkers Raceway, which employs the systems to transport video from cameras located in strategic spots on the racetrack and the entire complex.

“The MultiDyne LiGHTBoX gives us a lot of flexibility, providing connectivity over one multiple strand of fiber cable,” says Michael Rooney, director of Media Convergence, Empire City Casino/Yonkers Raceway. “We can go places we never thought we could, and whether it’s in the casino, ‘Winner’s Circle’ or down in the paddock, if there’s fiber there, our cameras can be there as well. Also, it was easy to integrate our older analog cameras onto the LiGHTBoX, along with our SD and HD cameras, which gives us more camera shots and flexibility.”

Rooney adds, “I will continue to use the LiGHTBoX for other organizations I work with such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as the Palm Beach Kennel Club and Poker Room in Florida.”

Yonkers Raceway employs two MultiDyne LiGHTBoX units to transport signals from HD, SD and analog cameras, moving throughout the facility, including the paddock, where the horses are presented and showcased before the race, all the action on the track, and finally the Winner’s Circle to capture the jockey and his winning horse. Thanks to the flexibility and portability of the LiGHTBoX, the raceway can place cameras at a variety of angles, giving viewers a bird’s eye view of the track action. The facility also uses the LiGHTBoX to operate its intercoms, allowing camera operators to communicate with one another as well as the control room.

A battery powered, bi-directional HD and analog video field fiber transport system designed for field and harsh environment applications, the LiGHTBoX is the ideal, portable solution to transport video, audio, intercom and control signals over long distances, making it perfect for a high-octane sport such as horse racing.

Frank Jachetta, Managing Director, MultiDyne, states, “Horse racing is an exhilarating, heart-pounding type of sport, which can be hard to translate to TV viewers not actually at the track. The LiGHTBoX gives Yonkers Raceway incredible flexibility when it comes to where cameras can be placed, not to mention the ability to stand up to dust and grit kicked up by the horses. We’re thrilled that our LiGHTBoX helps the Yonkers Raceway events truly come alive for viewers.”

New Solution Offers Up to 80 HD Signals and Option for a Signal Generator and HD Monitors

LAS VEGAS, APRIL 6, 2010 – MultiDyne, a premier provider of fiber optic-based video and audio transport and routing solutions for broadcast and pro A/V applications, will unveil its brand new LiGHTCuBE fiber optic field transport system at this year’s NAB (Booth C7637). In addition, MultiDyne will also introduce the option for an HD or composite signal generator as well as HD monitors on the LiGHTCuBE, giving broadcasters unprecedented ability to test and monitor signals in the field.

Capable of housing any product in the MultiDyne product line, the LiGHTCuBE represents the company’s most customizable, rugged and high-density solution to date. Designed for the fiber optic field transport of composite, HD video, PL, IFB, audio and more, the LiGHTCuBE can be configured for as many as 80 HD-SDI, SDI or composite video paths, with 225 AES or analog audio channels. The LiGHTCuBE is also compatible with DVI, RGB and HDMI and is AC and fully battery powered.

In addition, the new test and monitor features make the LiGHTCuBE especially effective for in-the-field signal monitoring. With an HD monitor and signal generator on either end of the product, users can test the circuit even if the camera has not arrived. Further, the HD test signal generator option also allows users to send the test pattern down the line, or to send the signal from the studio end directly to the LiGHTCuBE. This function allows users to monitor the camera output and the signals arriving at the shoot, and can be added to any solution in MultiDyne’s LiGHTBoX product line.

“With our new LiGHTCuBE, the options for the end-user are virtually limitless,” says Frank Jachetta, senior vice president of sales and operations for MultiDyne. “Not only does the LiGHTCuBE hold more HD, analog video and audio signals than any other solution in our product line, it is also extremely customizable, even by the end-user. Our new test and monitor features provide even more value. Customers who were creating their own makeshift flyaway case to house many video signals will finally have access to a smaller, cost-effective and extremely high-quality solution for all their fiber optic transport needs.”

A major benefit also lies in the LiGHTCuBE’s size. Though this solution is heavy on HD and audio signals, the LiGHTCuBEv is a compact and extremely portable 14-inch cube design, making it small enough for sports and ENG, an announce booth setting, as well as any field application where signal density is a must. Additional carry handles allow users to “grab-and-go” for remote or on-location broadcasts. A weather resistant cover is also available.

The LiGHTCuBE is exceptionally versatile and can be used in a number of different broadcast and pro A/V situations. It is ideal for applications including large-scale outdoor arena sporting events where a user requires a rugged, highly weather-proof solution for handling massive amounts of HD signals. The LiGHTCuBE is also a perfect fit for users transporting high-density audio; for example, in a live symphony or orchestra broadcast setting with over 60 microphones, the LiGHTCuBE can manage audio bottlenecks, transporting signals seamlessly to an OB van or studio.

The LiGHTCuBE can be linked using tactical or conventional fiber to any MultiDyne solution, including the DVM-2500, HD-1500, HD-3000, HDMI-ONE, DVI-6000 as well as many non-MultiDyne products. In addition, the LiGHTCuBE offers users intercom, PL, IFB and belt pack support. For more information on the LiGHTCuBE and its optional test and monitor features, please visit the MultiDyne website at: http://www.multidyne.com/productdetail.cfm?ProductID=247.

LOCUST VALLEY, NY, MARCH 22, 2010 – MultiDyne, a premier provider of fiber optic-based video and audio transport and routing solutions for broadcast and pro A/V applications, will introduce a new LiGHTBoX® 3D field fiber transport system at this year’s NAB (Booth C7637). With the explosion of 3D in the broadcast industry, MultiDyne has re-configured its popular LiGHTBoX solution to serve this growing market.

MultiDyne’s new LiGHTBoX 3D addresses the unique transport needs of 3D production while maintaining the unparalleled ruggedness and configurability of the standard LiGHTBoX. This original solution has been a mainstay in the equipment kits of sports and ENG broadcasters for years, most recently debuting on the field at Yankee Stadium during the World Series. Now, with major networks announcing entire programs dedicated to 3D sports and news coverage, the LiGHTBoX 3D provides a natural evolution path for crews looking to stay ahead of the game when purchasing new 3D-ready equipment.

“Over the past year we have been inundated with requests for economical fiber optic equipment capable of accommodating the high number of signals required for 3D production,” says Frank Jachetta, senior vice president of sales and operations for MultiDyne. “As our customers trust us with all of their fiber optic needs, we configured the LiGHTBoX 3D to provide them with a solution that is not only packed with more signal paths, but that is also cost-effective. Purchasing brand-new equipment suited for 3D can be extremely costly, so we really considered our customer’s bottom line when creating the LiGHTBoX 3D.”

With more signal paths for HD video, audio and data, the LiGHTBoX 3D can be configured for even the most complicated 3D shoots. Fully customizable and offering virtually any signal configuration, the LiGHTBoX 3D can also be linked via tactical fiber cable to the MultiDyne DVM-2500, HD-1500, HD-3000 and HEMC-4000.

Providing a high-quality signal throughput and the opportunity to integrate almost any solution from the MultiDyne product line, including the new DVI-6000 and COMMS-2000 products, the LiGHTBoX 3D system offers users endless possibilities and flexibility. Further, the LiGHTBoX 3D solution is equipped with an extremely rugged case, making it highly weatherproof for outdoor and remote location broadcasting.

One Box Television, an innovative UK multi camera gallery facilities rental company, purchased the extremely lightweight, tiny transmitter and receiver modules through MultiDyne’s exclusive distributor in the UK, Bright Space Technologies.

With recent rentals to premier broadcast networks including the BBC, West End Productions and large corporations like Sony, One Box Television was looking to upgrade its equipment to further incorporate the most sophisticated HD solutions on the market into its custom-made, “One Box” broadcast rental system. As the system is used for remote productions, One Box Television selected the SilverBULLET 3G fiber optic links for their ability to transport 3G signals over long distances on a single mode of fiber, their ease of portability and their extremely compact size.

“By combining the SilverBULLET modules with our other technology, the on-camera boxes now allow full vision control of HD cameras over 100 metres, as well as feeding time code, talkback and reverse vision,” says Richard Stevenson, founder of One Box Television. “The product revolutionizes the stability of our pictures, and has allowed much longer cable runs than were previously available to us over coax cable.”

Designed for quick and easy installation, the SilverBULLET supports transmission across SMPTE 424M 2.97 Gbps, SMPTE 292M 1.485 Gbps and SMPTE 259M 270 Mbps standards regardless of format. The transmitter modules also include equalization for long lengths of coaxial cable, further easing the installation process as users can incorporate the SilverBULLET at any point in the HD/SDI chain. With error free pathological pattern operation, low system jitter and embedded audio support, the SilverBULLET provides a typical link distance of up to 30 km (18.6 miles).

“The SilverBULLET is an ideal addition to London’s One Box Television’s existing custom rental package,” says Frank Jachetta, senior vice president of sales and operations for MultiDyne. “We’re pleased that companies from around the world look to Bright Space Technologies and MultiDyne to provide state-of-the-art equipment for their system upgrades, and as rental companies look for new ways to stay ahead of their competitors in 2010, they can rely on our full product line to provide the most cost-effective, reliable and long-lasting products on the market.”

Frank Jachetta – Senior VP of Sales and Operations
MultiDyne Video and Fiber Optic Systems

Frank, can you first fill us in on your background?

I hold a Bachelors degree in computer science and started in the industry as a circuit board designer and firmware developer. I have transitioned into a sales and operations position, but still enjoy being involved in product development.

What is the history of MultiDyne?

My father Vincent started MultiDyne in 1977 by building the first portable colour bar generator. MultiDyne then went on to create the first hand held signal generator. Our signal distribution background started with long-haul, cable equalizing DAs and has now evolved into a full line of fibre optic transport products.

What are the main product lines of MultiDyne?

MultiDyne comes from a broadcast background, but as convergence becomes a reality, many of our products carry over or focus on pro-AV, high end surveillance, intelligent traffic systems, military, government and simulation.

Our focus is high quality, point to point fibre optic transport. We can transport virtually any signal over fibre optic cable including composite, component and HDSDI video, high resolution graphics such as DVI dual link and RGB, AES and analogue audio, and much more. Another product line is the field rugged, fibre optic transport working in conjunction with our tactical cable assemblies. In fact, the LiGHTBoX 1150 won two awards at IBC in 2008.

Which applications represent the current “sweet spot”?

I would have to say the optical router (EOS-4000) in conjunction with the DVI/RGB Fibre Link (DVI-6000). When these two are installed in concert, it is no longer just a point to point device, we can distribute from one point to many points, such as multiple screens with the same content. Or, with a touch of the remote control, different images can be displayed on each of those same screens. DVI, DVI-DL, NTSC, PAL, RGB or YPbPr can be transported over the same link, so regardless of the source and destination signal requirements, one device can carry any of these signals. Audio also comes along for the ride and soon, USB!

Fibre optics is clearly a main component, how has this evolved in recent years?

With the advent of HDSDI and its tremendous proliferation, fibre has moved from being a luxury to becoming a necessity. Depending on cable types, HDSDI can only travel a few hundred feet over copper. This removes the option of copper from even a large room, not to mention a building, campus or metro area.

Does fibre compete favourably with copper?

Until it became a necessity, copper was more favourable due to fibre’s higher cost and fibre frailty. Fibre also had a stigma of being too difficult to terminate. However, with the increasing cost of copper, rugged tactical fibre and field termination kits, fibre has become more favourable than copper. In fact I was onsite for a railroad installation, standing in a tent on a windy winter day while the technician there terminated ST connectors onto fibre in a matter of seconds!

What future do you see for 3G transport?

Of course one day 3G will go the way of the VCR and vinyl records, but for now, the future of 3G transport is bright. The higher resolution 3G or 1080p HDTV is supported by many consumer displays and has proliferated into broadcast productions. 3G can be used to transport dual link HDSDI by multiplexing two 1.5G HDSDI streams into one 3G stream for digital cinema. 3G or HDTV 1080P is also used in sports and television productions. The 3G HD signal format is often used as the transport format of choice. Various types of signals are converted to and from the 3G format. This holds true for our DVI/RGB fibre link which converts DVI to 3G for transport or cross conversion. This way the 3G can pass through other 3G devices and routers easily, before it is converted back to DVI or simply left in its new 3G form.

How has the current business climate affected you?

I feel as an industry, even outside of fibre, we are all very blessed by the explosive growth of high resolution video content and the need to distribute it. With the mandates of changing over to HD, all the new video services that consumers have available and are willing to purchase and the proliferation of multimedia into all aspects of life, I am cautiously optimistic that our industry will not just weather these difficult times, but thrive.

Would you like to make a few predictions about the future of the media industry once the financial crisis is behind us?

Although the word convergence has become a cliché, I feel this is our future. When a single broadband conduit is brought to the home it will not just bring voice data and video, but will bring on demand services of very specialized content as easily as accessing a web site. When you can access various HD camera views at will, while watching baseball; when you can shop interactively, or take a real-time virtual walk through the summerhouse you are about to rent 3000 miles away, this is the future.

Current on demand and fibre to the home are a glimpse of what’s to come, but as the economy improves and the infrastructure is expanded, these services will quickly become reality. Of course, the broadband conduit to the home will be fibre.

Clear-Com® and RTS® Two- To- Four Wire Intercom Bridge

Orlando, FL, June 24, 2009 – MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic Systems, a premier provider of fiber optic-based video and audio transport solutions for broadcast and pro A/V applications, introduces the COMMS-2000 Two Wire to Four Wire Intercom Interface at InfoComm 2009 (Booth 4629).

The COMMS-2000 interface allows for the conversion of a single channel of standard or TW party-line intercom to four-wire audio, while also converting call signals to RS-422 data. It also offers the capability to convert the signal back to its original form. The resulting audio and RS-422 data from the COMMS-2000 can then be sent to a Clear-Com Matrix port, fiber optic converter such as the MultiDyne Fiber-Comms or connected to another COMMS-2000 over twisted-pair cable such as CAT-5E. With its excellent hybrid null, offering superior isolation between sender and caller audio, and wide-range level controls, the COMMS-2000 may also be used as a high-quality stand-alone two-to-four-wire converter. It is also a cost-effective integrated component for the LiGHTBoXTM field portable fiber optic transport system.

Ideal for touring situations, the COMMS-2000 offers a lightweight, compact size in a design that does not call for an additional power source, as the COMMS-2000 obtains its DC operating current through the party-line connection on pin two of its XLR connector. Long copper cable runs are no longer required as the COMMS-2000 utilizes lightweight UTP cables. When used with a Clear-Com Matrix system, the COMMS-2000 allows a party-line channel to be connected to the Matrix frame with up to 5000 feet of cable. The COMMS-2000 can easily be rack-mounted, with up to three units fitting across a standard 1-RU rack space.

For systems where only one or two party-line channels are needed, the COMMS-2000 is ideal. Simply run UTP cable from the Matrix frame to the COMMS-2000, which is connected to and powered by the party-line system. A rear panel dip-switch on the COMMS-2000 allows the four-wire audio and RS-422 data to be connected to the RJ-45 jack, instead of an all-inclusive, hardwired DB-15 connector, simplifying set-up.

“When combined with our new Fiber-Comms four wire optical extender for intercom and IFB, the COMMS-2000 becomes a vital component to our user’s intercom-over-fiber transport needs,” says Jim Jachetta, senior vice president of engineering and product development. “With more and more broadcast and AV setups incorporating intercom communications equipment, the COMMS-2000 allows for intercom connectivity through a standard analog audio fiber optic link.” In addition to its acting as a visual indicator, when used with two COMMS-2000 units, the call signaling function can be used to trigger relays or functions in other intercom equipment. An amber data LED provides the user with continuous status on the data link between two COMMS-2000 units and will indicate whether or not a proper link has been established. The COMMS-2000 also includes internal jumpers to select different baud rates for the RS-422 data.

ORLANDO, FL, JUNE 22, 2009 – MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic Systems, a premier provider of fiber optic-based video and audio transport solutions for broadcast and pro A/V applications, is introducing Fiber-Comms, a four-wire optical extender designed for intercom lines at InfoComm 2009 (Booth 4629). This advanced fiber optic extender seamlessly transports from one to eight intercom or IFB channels and can also transport control and signaling data.

Addressing the three key areas sought after by professionals in the A/V and broadcast industries, Fiber-Comms allows for greater data transport, over a lighter fiber cable and for a longer distance. When used in conjunction with the MultiDyne COMMS-2000 two-wire to four-wire converter, Fiber-Comms can extend a two-wire system. It is also a cost-effective integrated component for the LiGHTBoXTM field portable fiber optic transport system.

“Fiber-Comms allows for easy integration with the other products in MultiDyne’s innovative fiber optic solution line,” says Frank Jachetta, senior vice president of sales and operations. “Customers can order the Fiber-Comms extender with an XLR pigtail for configuration with the Clear-Com®, Studio Technologies® and RTS systems®, giving our users even more options for serial data transport over greater distances.”

The Fiber-Comms four-wire extender handles 24-bit audio flat from 20 to 20 KHz, a key feature that does not color the audio. It also has an S/N greater than 90 dB and a THD less than 0.05%. An optical budget of up to 24dB for single-mode further enhances the product’s audio capabilities. An optional eight separate intercom channels can also be used.

Fiber-Comms includes an XLR cable with a four-wire XLR input and output and is available in portable and rack-mount configurations.

New Three-Inch Modules Offer the Industry’s Broadest Range of Digital Rates

ORLANDO, FL, JUNE 17, 2009 – MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic Systems, a premier provider of fiber optic-based video and audio transport solutions for broadcast and pro A/V applications, is introducing the SilverBULLETTM Mini 3G HD/SDI fiber optic link at InfoComm 2009 (Booth 4629). This two-part, transceiver/receiver solution, designed for the transmission of SDI and HD-SDI TV signals over a single-mode fiber optic cable, maintains the signal quality that broadcasters demand – 5 Mbps to 3 Gbps. At just three inches in length, this cost-effective solution is ideal for a wide variety of pro A/V and broadcast applications, including video production and editing, ENG with additional uses for sports teleproduction, field production, remote camera links, cross-campus production, pre-fibered venues and courtesy feeds.

The tiny transmitter and receiver modules are portable, lightweight solutions for remote productions. Utilizing LED indicators to digitally display critical system diagnostic information including the Power On, HD/SDI signal presence and Received Optical Power levels, the SilverBULLET eliminates the need for the weight of additional test equipment. With error free pathological pattern operation, low system jitter and embedded audio support, the SilverBULLET provides a typical link distance of up to 18.6 miles (30 km).

“An economical solution for the fiber optic transport of 5 Mbps to 3 Gbps HDTV signals, the SilverBULLET is one of the broadcast industry’s smallest media adaptor solutions with the broadest range of digital rates,” says Jim Jachetta, senior vice president of engineering and product development. “It is a must-have for production at any location because it is a mobile solution that provides reliability and efficiency, all while continuing to meet our users’ high expectations for signal quality.”

Built for high durability, the SilverBULLET features an over-molded construction with a rugged “ST” simplex optical interface and 75 Ohm BNC (male) simplex electrical interface.

The SilverBULLET is compatible with any DC voltage from 5 to 16 volts with a four pin XLR. The jack also provides for SNMP monitoring, a critical component to network management.
