MULTIDYNE FEATURES OPENGEAR HD-4400-CWDM AT INFOCOMM 2010

June 9th, 2010

New Card Offers 18 HD Signals over One Fiber

LAS VEGAS, JUNE 9, 2010 MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic Systems, a premier provider of fiber optic-based video and audio transport and routing solutions for broadcast and pro A/V applications, will showcase its new openGear-compatible HD-4400-CWDM at InfoComm 2010 . Making its InfoComm debut, MultiDyne’s HD-4400-CWDM will provide customers with unprecedented density, redundancy and control – offering a massive 18 HD signals on one fiber.

The HD-4400-CWDM card transports four 3G, HD-SDI signals over one fiber. This fiber can be patched to additional HD-4400-CWDM cards, for a total of 18 3G HD-SDI signals over one fiber, in just five slots. With such high density, one openGear 2RU frame can transport a total of 18 bi-directional signals (36 3G, HD-SDI signals over two fibers), making the solution ideal for high-capacity fiber trunking of 3G HD-SDI signals in any broadcast facility.

MULTIDYNE’S MULTI-FORMAT HD-1500 FIBER OPTIC LINK TO HIT THE RED CARPET AT THE VANCOUVER WINTER GAMES OPENING CEREMONIES

February 2nd, 2010

MultiDyne - LiGHTBoXLOCUST VALLEY, NY, FEBRUARY 2, 2010 – As the Olympic torch is carried into BC Place Stadium for the official opening ceremonies of the Vancouver Winter Games, MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic System’s HD-1500 Fiber Optic Link will be in action transmitting signals from the announcer booths and red carpet. MultiDyne, a premier provider of fiber optic-based video and audio transport and routing solutions for broadcast and pro A/V applications, was chosen to supply its HD-1500 and LiGHTBoX® field fiber transport systems for the Canadian broadcast by CP Communications, the largest provider of wireless equipment to the sports broadcasting industry.

For this year’s opening ceremonies, CP Communications required the option of monitoring both HD and SDI signals and wanted to transport video back and forth from its client’s announcer booths to the network’s broadcast trucks. As a longtime user of MultiDyne equipment and with over 60 HD-1500 links in-house, CP Communications knew that the HD-1500 was one of the few products on the market designed for monitoring multiple formats in one single unit. With this in mind, the HD-1500 was incorporated into booth kits assembled for the client’s French, English, combined French/English mix and red carpet announce booth kits of equipment to be used during the Games’ opening ceremonies.

“Reliable products are important for any project, but the Olympics and the live broadcast of the opening ceremonies absolutely steps up that need a notch,” says Kurt Heitmann, senior vice president of sales for CP Communications. “Security is also tighter for a major event of this stature, so you have to be able to rely on the equipment you ship in because you don’t have the opportunity to replace a product if it stops working. We have never had a failure with a MultiDyne product, and that gives us the confidence to recommend the HD-1500 to our customers, who are very comfortable using a high-quality solution like MultiDyne’s HD-1500 at this year’s opening ceremonies.”

Beyond its reputation with CP Communications for reliability, Heitmann also touts the HD-1500 as user-friendly, noting that the solution is easily rack-mountable unlike other smaller devices on the market that do not come with rack mounts. Further, as other products have much smaller displays, Heitmann appreciates the HD-1500’s large LED indicators for data rate, HD, lock and power that aid users who need to quickly identify certain functions.

MultiDyne - LiGHTBoX Rack FrontIn addition to the HD-1500 links, CP Communications will also provide clients at the Olympics with custom LiGHTBoX field fiber transport systems that will be used to transport audio and data bi-directionally as well as provide two-wire to four-wire communications for the camera operator.

“With MultiDyne, you can customize just about any product,” says Heitmann. “Their customer service is above and beyond and they are very flexible; they will work with you to develop unique, cost-effective products for you and your customers. We worked closely with them on the custom LiGHTBoX units and we just wouldn’t have been able to do that with some other manufacturers. As a company, we think MultiDyne is tops.”

The HD-1500 and LiGHTBoX units will be used at this year’s Vancouver Winter Games beginning February 12, 2010. For more information on the HD-1500 or LiGHTBoX, please visit www.multidyne.com.

TV Technology User Report: MultiDyne Helps Casino Create Visual Oasis

September 9th, 2009

MultiDyne has had the privillege of working with some amazing clients, including the Peppermill Casino brand in Reno, Nevada. Below is their project manager Aaron Lines’ take on using the MultiDyne HD-1500 to create a visual oasis at the hotel properties.

This report was first published in TV Technology – http://www.tvtechnology.com/article/86544.

WENDOVER, NEV.
When you step into any of the Peppermill Casino’s gaming areas, either here or at our Reno, Nev. location, you’ll enter a fantasy world of stunning architecture, HD video and sizzling action. All of our properties place a major emphasis on creating the most exciting and luxurious atmosphere for our guests. That’s why, when I was tasked with complementing our casino design with a world-class video and entertainment system, I needed a video transport solution that could continue the standard of excellence we demand as a company.
When I began my planning for the project, there were only a few companies that had fiber systems for transferring HD video over the distance involved. After meeting with MultiDyne, they assured me that there was no challenge in distributing our 16 HD-SDI streams to all of our Wendover properties, as well as moving video from one side of our Reno property to the other.
During the selection and testing process, a critical concern was in avoiding degradation of our high-resolution video during transport. The HD-1500 certainly passed this and all of the tests. Our displays give guests the feeling that they have walked into a new visual oasis, heightening the feeling of excitement in our gaming areas.

Today, the HD-1500 system continues to serve as a crucial component in our highly proprietary and customized equipment configuration. It is used to transport both video and embedded audio. The HD-1500 works flawlessly and has been used 24 hours a day, seven days a week for two years now with absolutely no failures.

As this level of broadcast quality distribution is very unusual for a casino, it was important to work with a manufacturer who had solid experience in broadcast video, and also understood gaming facilities. MultiDyne’s very professional customer service and attention to our needs provided the comfort level needed to purchase these new products, and I’ve continued to rely on MultiDyne for these services over the years.

Broadband Cable Television Transport

February 7th, 2009

Broadband Cable Television Transport

Broadband cable television signals are traditionally transported over a hybrid system of fiber and coax.  Hundreds of video sources are modulated onto individual carriers and combined into one broadband RF signal.  This RF signals can have a frequency bandwidth of 48 to 870 MHz.  This an enormous bandwidth to transport strictly over coax.  Cable systems are designed to transport the high bandwidth signals over fiber to each residential community.   The last mile of distribution is then accomplished over coax for delivery to each home. Multiple line amplifiers are used to transport the high bandwidth signals over coax the last mile.

Another application is in a campus environment.  If we take a corporation, university or military base, often enough of the buildings are spread over some distance.  Many of these facilities have an internal cable television system.  These facilities receive a commercial cable TV signal from a local provider.  They  strip out the channels of interest such as news and educational programming.  They then combine these channels with their own internal programming such as human resource and training channels.   The channels are then modulated and combined into one broadband RF signal.

Many of the buildings on the campus may be several miles away.  Broadband fiber optic links can be used to get the cable TV signal to each building.  The cable TV is then distributed in each building via coax the last several 100 feet.  Figure 31 shows the typical fiber optic unit used in a CATV Fiber Link.
